This is looking more complicated than the current Genie system. I had hoped Disney would decrease the amount of advanced planning necessary and allow for a bit more spontaneity! There are more tiers than before, more rules about advanced planning, and it all seems a bit messy.

Personally I don't think they're worth it, I only have them because they came with the dining plan!

During the Early Entry period you don't use the Lightning Lane, so you would ride it by just queuing in the standby line. Then you could ride it again at 8:15am, this time using the Lightning Lane.

Hey Jellybean! Sorry I haven’t seen your excellent question until now. While I feel confident you will be able to modify the time windows, I‘m not sure you can add guests to an existing window. It will be interesting to see! if it doesn’t, what I suggest is the family and your sister agree on optimal return windows and hopefully you will be able to snag the same times your sister got when you are able to book for your family. Hope that makes sense and stay tuned!

Any one have any advice or ideas? 7/24 is supposed to be our first park day. Planning on doing AK and MK with 15 people ages 4 months to 70 years old.

Unless the wait is say 20 mins or less, I wouldn't say it's worth experiencing the standby line. They can certainly be cool, but not usually worth waiting in for a long period of time. It's definitely worth going for the Guardians virtual queue as you may as well, we had a really mixed experience. We were through it in around 20 mins one time, but another over an hour.
