We are very sad to share the news that the final project Jim Henson worked on before he passed away will soon be shuttered to make way for the new Monsters Inc. Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios. While no specific date has been provided in the announcement from Disney, Muppet*Vision 3D will close and the Muppets will move down the road to Sunset Boulevard to take over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. While it had been rumored for some time that the Muppets may replace Aerosmith, it is very sad to learn that they will be leaving Grand Avenue. Prior to his death, Jim Henson and Disney had planned an entire Muppets-themed land in Grand Avenue with multiple attractions. Presently, you can enjoy Muppets theming in PizzeRizzo and the exteriors along Grand Avenue, but the Stage One company store has been shuttered for quite some time and is only rarely used for special event merchandise offerings.

There is also no date given for the closure of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, but it will likely be a lengthy refurbishment to turn it into the signature Muppets attraction at Walt Disney World. As soon as we have more details, we will share them with you. In the meantime, we are going to go enjoy Muppet*Vision 3D as many times as we can before it's gone for good. Let us know what you think about this news in the comments below.

Oh no! The last time I went to Disney World was the year Muppet*Vision 3D opened. I think I watched it at least 3 times in one day. It was my favourite attraction at Disney, and I have been so looking forward to seeing it again when I take my kids this January. Fingers crossed that it's still open.

Also, it seems odd to make such an intense ride Muppets-themed.
