Hi! We are planning our next trip in January 2026 and I'm trying to choose between two options that overlap with a school break. The first option would be after New Year into the first week of January (maybe January 4-11) or a week surrounding Martin Luther King Day (maybe January 15-22). Which would you pick, and what would you see as the pros of cons of each? How do you think crowds would compare? I think the earlier might afford the opportunity to see the tail end of Christmas decorations, and the latter would probably be during Festival of the Arts (but maybe right at the beginning, which might not be ideal). Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi Jennie! As far as crowds go, they start to go down around Jan 5. Either week looks pretty good according to Touring Plans. They do expect slightly bigger crowds on Saturday and Sunday of MLK weekend, but otherwise the crowds during the week are lower as the months go on. Judging from that, I’d say it depends on what you plan for those weekend days. Either way, I think you will be fine. I will add, they usually close the Skyliner in January for maintenance for about 10 days. Unfortunately they havne’t even announced the dates for 2025 yet. In 2023 it was Jan 22-29 and 2024 was Jan 16-26. So if the Skyliner is important to you, going earlier in the month may be advantageous. Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions!
